Color fastness is one of the important quality indicators of textiles. The so-called color fastness refers to the degree to which the color of dyed textiles remains firm under physical and chemical reactions, that is, the degree to which the color of dyed textiles is firm under external influences is called color fastness. The evaluation level of color fastness is indicated by the color change of the test sample after the experiment and the degree of white cloth staining.
In various color fastness projects, the most commonly used color fastness includes color fastness to rubbing, color fastness to sweat stains, color fastness to washing, color fastness to light, color fastness to immersion, color fastness to brushing, color fastness to weather, and so on. In actual life, the assessment of which items is mainly determined by the final use of the product, among which sweat resistance, dry friction resistance, and water immersion color fastness are the basic safety technical specifications for textiles. All dyed textiles should be assessed. In addition, for textile products for infants and young children, saliva color fastness should also be assessed.
The assessment of color fastness generally adopts visual evaluation method, which uses a gray sample card as a standard sample, and compares the gray card and the sample with human eyes under certain lighting and environmental conditions to determine the original color change and white cloth staining level of the sample. The gray card (representing discoloration and staining respectively) has five fastness levels, namely 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. Level 5 is the best, level 1 is the worst. In every two levels, an additional half level is added, namely 4 5, 3 4, 2 3, and 1 2. Therefore, the gray cards we use in our daily lives have 5 levels and 9 grades, and the color fastness assessment results are one of the 9 levels. If the color fastness of a woven tape product does not meet the standard level, then the woven tape product is considered unqualified.
